CP AXTRA Reinforces Success in Comprehensive Waste Management Driving Toward a Zero-Waste Goal by 2030

04 December 2025

Bangkok, 4 December 2025 — CP AXTRA Public Company Limited, the operator of the “makro–Lotus’s” wholesale and retail businesses, reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability on Thai Environment Day by highlighting the achievements of its “AXTRA Zero Waste – Turn Waste into Value” initiative in 2025. The company successfully reduced waste by more than 31,700 tons, equivalent to avoiding 109,649 tons of CO₂e greenhouse gas emissions. These accomplishments demonstrate tangible environmental, economic, and social impacts, strengthening CP AXTRA’s progress toward its goals of achieving Zero Waste to Landfill by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050.

Over 15,000 Tons of Food Waste Reduced

In 2025, CP AXTRA significantly reduced food waste sent to landfills through three core strategies:

  • “Edible, Don’t Waste” Program: Distributing surplus, edible, quality food to underprivileged communities across Thailand through collaborations with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, SOS Foundation and various social partners providing over 4 million meals.
  • Supporting Surplus Food for Animal Welfare: Working with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to deliver surplus food from makro–Lotus’s branches to 27 wildlife conservation centers nationwide totaling over 2 million kilograms.
  • “From Waste to Wealth” Initiative: Using green innovation to train farmers in upcycling food waste into feed for BSF (Black Soldier Fly) larvae, which are then processed into value-added products. This circular economy solution has saved over 79 million baht in animal feed costs.

16,755 Tons of Non-Food Waste Diverted for Recycling

makro–Lotus’s stores nationwide strictly implement waste sorting to maximize recycling through three key channels: “Return & Recycle” collection points over 149 Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs), weekend Recycle Markets held every Saturday–Sunday at 11 makro–Lotus’s branches. These initiatives have enabled the recovery of more than 2.2 million plastic bottles, underscoring the company’s strong commitment to promoting recycling and waste segregation behaviors across Thai society.

Advancing Toward Sustainable Products — Turning Waste into New Value

Driven by a mission to elevate value from waste, CP AXTRA is collaborating with partners to develop new environmentally friendly sustainable products, which will be available across all makro–Lotus’s stores. This effort supports Thailand’s long-term sustainability vision in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CP AXTRA reiterates its dedication to responsible resource use, waste reduction at every stage and driving the circular economy throughout the supply chain. The company continues to work closely with government agencies, private-sector partners, and academic institutions leveraging innovation to sustainably reduce food and plastic waste while supporting local communities, farmers, and small businesses to participate in the sustainability journey.
