CP AXTRA Joins the “Saraburi Sandbox,” Demonstrating Leadership in Food Surplus and Waste Management to Co-Create Thailand’s First Low-Carbon City Model

Saraburi, 23 January 2026 – When “food surplus” is no longer considered waste, but a vital resource that helps improve access to quality food while driving society toward sustainability, CP AXTRA Public Company Limited, or CP AXTRA, the operator of wholesale and retail businesses under the “Makro–Lotus’s” brands, continues to play a key role in advancing the “Saraburi Low-Carbon City” initiative, or the Saraburi Sandbox.
By collaborating with government agencies, private sector partners, and local communities, CP AXTRA has helped establish a systematic food surplus management model, showcasing tangible outcomes of its Food Surplus initiative that create shared value for people, communities, and the environment. The initiative aligns with the company’s goal of achieving Zero Waste to Landfill throughout its supply chain.
Leveraging its expertise in retail and logistics, CP AXTRA manages quality food surplus from all Makro–Lotus’s stores in Saraburi Province and redistributes it to vulnerable and underprivileged groups. This approach not only strengthens food security within local communities but also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Mrs. Siriporn Dechsingha, Chief Corporate Sustainability and Communications Officer of CP AXTRA Public Company Limited, said, “The implementation of the Food Surplus project under the ‘Saraburi Low-Carbon City (Saraburi Sandbox)’ concept represents an integrated collaboration between CP AXTRA, government agencies, and private sector partners in Saraburi Province. The project supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aligns with Thailand’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) on greenhouse gas reduction. As a food surplus contributor, CP AXTRA delivers quality food ingredients to vulnerable groups under the care of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security through provincial agencies in Saraburi, following a systematic process to ensure food quality and consumer safety.”
Over the six-month implementation period, the Food Surplus project under the Saraburi Sandbox successfully redistributed surplus food from 38 stores across 11 districts in Saraburi Province, averaging 84.5 kilograms per store per day, or a total of 15,643.80 kilograms. The initiative benefited 3,760 vulnerable individuals, reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 8,909.60 kilograms of CO2 equivalent, and delivered food valued at more than THB 3.71 million.
Looking ahead, CP AXTRA plans to build on the success of the Saraburi Sandbox by expanding the food surplus management model to neighboring provinces, including Lopburi, Nakhon Nayok, Sa Kaeo, and Prachinburi, with the aim of establishing a regional Food Surplus network. This expansion seeks to enhance quality of life while promoting sustainable environmental stewardship, in line with the concept of “Edible Saraburi.”
In addition, surplus food is also utilized to support farmers by being repurposed for animal feed and compost production, helping to reduce costs and minimize waste. Non-food waste is diverted into recycling processes, reinforcing CP AXTRA’s commitment to achieving Zero Waste to Landfill by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050 under its “AXTRA Zero Waste: Reduce Waste, Create Value” initiative.
