CP AXTRA Partners with Pollution Control Department Launches “Zero Waste to Landfill Store” Prototype

19 March 2026

19 March 2026 – CP AXTRA Public Company Limited (CP AXTRA), the operator of “Makro–Lotus’s” businesses, has partnered with the Pollution Control Department to advance sustainable retail through the “Zero Waste to Landfill Store” model. The launch was attended by Mr. Surin Worakijthamrong, Director-General of the Pollution Control Department, who visited Makro Bang Phli, a prototype store that demonstrates how a public-private collaboration can elevate comprehensive waste management standards across Thailand’s retail industry.

Makro Bang Phli serves as a model Zero Waste to Landfill store, successfully reducing waste sent to landfill from over 2,600 kilograms per day to zero, eliminating 3,817 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent greenhouse gas emissions per year. CP AXTRA selected Makro Bang Phli as its pilot branch under the “Reduce Waste, Create Value – AXTRA Zero Waste” concept, applying end-to-end waste management across all three stages:

  • Upstream: Collaborating with manufacturers to design packaging that extends product shelf life and reduces spoilage, minimizing losses and waste from the design and production stages.
  • Midstream: Utilizing AI and a Demand Forecast System to accurately predict product demand and optimize daily procurement, improving inventory management. The store operates with 100% Electronic Shelf Labels to reduce paper waste, and uses yellow-tag discount systems to accelerate sales and minimize food waste.
  • Downstream: Remaining waste is systematically managed in collaboration with partners and communities to ensure zero landfill. This includes recycling into new products, repurposing surplus food for animal feed, applying green innovation using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) protein to convert food waste into valuable resources, and transforming non-recyclable waste into RDF fuel.

CP AXTRA continues to drive the Circular Economy, aiming to become a Zero Waste to Landfill organization by 2030. The company is committed to expanding this model across Makro and Lotus’s branches both domestically and internationally.

Throughout the past year, CP AXTRA has systematically managed waste across the entire supply chain, successfully diverting over 31,700 tonnes of waste from landfill. The company has also created a circular economy from food surplus and recycled materials, supporting farmers and communities, generating an economic value of over 65 million baht per year.

This initiative underscores CP AXTRA’s commitment to advancing “green retail,” creating sustainable value for the environment, economy, and society.
